Why do I need to go to the dentist when I don’t have a problem?
Your teeth and gums aren’t giving you any discomfort and you’re happy with your smile – why would you go to the dentist? Here are a few reasons why you should visit the dentist even if everything feels good:
- The absence of pain does not necessarily mean there are no issues with the teeth and gums. If it has been a while since you have been to the dentist, there may be old, leaking fillings that need to be replaced or areas of thick, smelly plaque build-up that needs to be removed with a professional scale & clean.
- It gives us the opportunity to detect problematic areas in their initial stages. Problems that are picked up early are easier to treat and often have a wider range of treatment options available.
- Leaving dental problems until they start to cause pain and discomfort can incur a more costly treatment as opposed to if they were treated earlier. It can also mean the disease has progressed so far that the prognosis of the tooth is compromised, or even worse, the tooth cannot be saved.
Salamanca Dental understands it can be difficult to gauge your own status of teeth and gum health, which is why we recommend regular dental checkups.
